Have you ever considered working as a life model and posing in various life modelling poses in art classes?
Life modelling may sound like a weird way to make money, but it is a rather creative way for people to make money, as long as you are comfortable with posing in front of strangers.
Depending on where in the world you live, the amount you can earn per hour will vary; you could earn $10 per hour.

WHAT DOES LIFE MODELLING INVOLVE AND IS IT FOR ME?
Firstly, are you comfortable with a job that involves people you don’t know at all staring at you, and this is while you are in your birthday suit?
You also need to be able to maintain your pose for hours at a time.
On average, a life modelling session can last about three hours, and you have a few breaks to rest.
Many people may wonder if you need to have a perfect body.
No artist is looking for life models of all shapes and sizes to draw.
Please remember you need to be comfortable with being nude in front of strange, this is extremely important.
It’s a good idea to review art poses for life drawing so you can get an idea of the types of poses you may encounter in art classes.
Practice in front of the mirror and come up with your own poses. The art teacher may ask you to come up with your own poses.
On occasions, you could be asked to pose with another life model, and they could be a member of the opposite sex. Ask yourself, how comfortable are you with that?
Keep in mind that the first few times you pose as a life model may be challenging.
Expect to hold the pose for extended periods, which may be uncomfortable for some people.
Some people work part-time as life models and earn a decent income on the side.

WHAT HENS WITH PENS IS LOOKING FOR IN LIFE MODELS?
We are always looking for professional models and tutors who can hold poses for up to 20 minutes and have experience in life modelling.
We do offer support, guidance and training on an ongoing basis, but some roles are solo or Bare Bones, as we call them, so you have to be confident to model and teach alone.
Timekeeping must be impeccable.
Candidates must be organised and able to plan their classes and travel in advance.
All our models and tutors are expected to maintain a fun and professional class atmosphere.
You will be LGBTQ+ friendly and comfortable working with mixed groups. Computer literate and ideally a smartphone user – most of our communication is online.
Ideal candidates will also have access to private transportation to reach remote hen party venues and demonstrate initiative to arrive on time.
Accepting a booking without adequate planning for your travel will mean we have to remove you from our books, I’m afraid.
Many of our events are photographed by the groups or by our team of photographers, so it’s great if you are comfortable with what you do – if you prefer not to be on social media, etc, be imaginative in how you might accommodate a photo with the group – mask, rearview, etc.
Good communication is required to liaise with us, your team and our clients.

THE REGISTER OF ARTISTS MODEL (RAM)
The Art Models Register (RAM) – a sort of unofficial life modelling union – features jobs all around the country.
All jobs are restricted to RAM members only, but membership costs only £35 per year (£38.50 to join).
Being on the public list of RAM members could make a big difference. Some colleges and private art groups only employ RAM members, and Bare Facts model booking service for London also only supports RAM models.
- London applicants must audition at the life drawing workshops in Holloway or Richmond, but RAM does state that most applicants are accepted.
- Outside of London, there is no need to audition, so you join as an Associate Member initially. Then, once you’ve sent two tutor references from jobs, you can convert to full membership at any time, for no extra charge.
HOW MUCH CAN I MAKE AS A LIFE MODEL?
The amount you can earn as a life model varies significantly depending on where you live in the world. On average, you can earn $10 to $20 an hour.
Research online or ask at the local art centres, colleges and universities how much they pay people to pose as a life model for art classes.
