A WEEK OF FAMILY MEALS ON A BUDGET.
Do you want to find out how to cook a week of family meals on a budget?
So many people are looking for ways to save money when cooking. These affordable dinner recipes are easy to cook and tasty.
When it comes to family meals on a budget, you may need to cater to a wide variety of tastes. Think about your family members, not everyone likes the same food.
Planning what you will cook for dinner for the week can save you time and money. If I don’t plan my meals ahead of time, I end up buying more groceries than needed for the week.
Tell me, do you buy your food, or do you just wing it and cook whatever you have in the fridge, freezer, and kitchen cupboard? Or do you plan your meals beforehand, ensuring you have everything ready for when you need it?
What are some of the ingredients you can use to make tasty family meals on a budget?
Chicken is very versatile in budget cooking, especially if you buy a whole chicken and portion it or cook it whole and create new meals the following day.
Mincemeat is a tasty budget meal option. It can be used in a variety of meals, and leftovers can be used to create a new meal the next day.
Pasta can be used to create simple yet tasty budget meals for the whole family to enjoy. One of my favorite pasta dishes is so simple and yet so tasty.
Pasta, onions, garlic, ginger, bacon, green peppers, and tomatoes—you can use fresh or tinned tomatoes—season with salt and pepper.
You can add a cheese sauce with a bit of grated cheese on top and bake it in the oven for a while until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and golden on top.
A WEEK OF FAMILY MEALS ON A BUDGET.
I buy more of certain food items, such as mincemeat, tinned tuna, tinned tomatoes, lots of pasta, potatoes, onions, dried beans, garlic, and ginger.
Let’s have a closer look at ingredients to make weekly meals on a budget for the whole family.
Vegetables: I love adding vegetables to the meals I’m cooking, not only is it healthy for the whole family, but you can add more vegetables and less meat.
When it comes to buying vegetables, I prefer buying fresh ones, but it’s up to you whether you want to buy fresh or frozen ones.
Vegetables I find handy include: Potatoes, onions, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, spinach, gem squash, pumpkin, green peppers, cabbage, eggplant, mushrooms and green beans.
A great tip is to buy vegetables when they are in season. Vegetables are cheaper in season than out of season.
Frozen vegetables: I know there are times when you may not still have the time to peel, slice, and dice fresh vegetables, so it is handy to have a bag of frozen vegetables in the freezer.
Fresh garlic and ginger are also good. I do not buy garlic or ginger that is already crushed; personally, I find it has a chemical taste.
Chillies are great because you can have mincemeat with vegetables. You can fry some onions, garlic, ginger, and chilli the following day and then add the leftover mincemeat.
Mincemeat: I prefer to buy lean mincemeat, which tends to have a less fatty taste, but it’s up to you which beef mincemeat you buy for your family.
You can buy beef mincemeat, chicken mincemeat, pork and beef mix, lamb mince, or beef and lamb mixed mincemeat.
Eggs: I don’t know about you, but eggs are so versatile. You can eat fried eggs with bread and some sliced tomatoes or use eggs to make a variety of meals.
Scrambled eggs with onions, garlic, and cheese. Omelette with onions, tomatoes, and bacon. The thing about omelettes is that you can play around and experiment with so many fillings.
Dont forget yummy frittatas, like with omelettes, you can experiment with flavours.
Tinned tomatoes are so versatile. Add them to mincemeat, and you can buy a variety of tinned tomatoes: plain, with onion, garlic, and herbs.
Tinned beans: Like tinned tomatoes, there is a large variety of tinned beans available. I like using tinned beans in stews or casseroles.
I often eat tinned beans on toast with a fried egg and some herbs. Also, tinned beans in mincemeat is a great idea.
Tinned tuna: Having tinned tuna in the cupboard is very handy. Oftentimes I have tinned tuna with boiled eggs, spring onion, garlic, ginger, a little bit of mayonnaise, salt and pepper to season on fresh bread or toast.
CONCLUSION: A WEEK OF FAMILY MEALS ON A BUDGET.
